Mockingbird Update!

I am absolutely convinced that the mockingbird currently nesting in the tree by my porch is MY MOCKINGBIRD, from last spring.  I am sure that the canned catfood he ate made him the biggest and smartest of all the birds, and his wild adventure staying in a box on the porch has made him a dashing and romantic figure among the neighborhood birds, which all together has allowed him find the prettiest mate, and they are building the best and biggest nest.

No eggs in it yet…

Thanks to my own personal garden gnomes, Jaden and Kyler, the flowers and veggies are already looking like a real garden, and the yard in ready-for-barefeet condition!  No sweeter sound than a kid asking, “Can I use the lawn mower?”  :)

I always wanted to have a grapevine and a fig tree (as in the song: everyone ‘neath his vine and fig tree shall live in peace and not afraid).  But for several years it seemed only one or the other would grow.  (What does that mean?  To live in peace, or not afraid…??)  But hooray!  As of this spring, the grapes and figs have officially survived their first winter and seem ready for business.

Also: tomatoes, lettuce, rhubarb, strawberries, misc. herbs.. and some primroses came up out of nowhere. I don’t even remember planting them.
