to Do Things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My very first idea for a blog (way back in the day) was to make a sort of How-To site, with all sorts of useful projects.\u00c2\u00a0 The name of this site will be File to Fit.\u00c2\u00a0 I had a whole set of photos documenting the right way to fix a leaky faucet, but since that particular project ended with me, at 2 am, under the bathroom cabinet, in furious tears, and holding a hammer&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 anyway&#8230;.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>But <noindex><script id=\"wpinfo-pst1\" type=\"text\/javascript\" I was so happy about the new paint in the kitchen that I decided to keep going.\u00c2\u00a0 I was dead set on making the bathroom prettier.\u00c2\u00a0 I decided the best thing to do would be to get rid of the 6-year-old tacky glue stuff on the tiles all along the edges of the tub (don&#8217;t ask), and I got an Amazing Chemical which Removes Stuff.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d been avoiding doing this for fear this chemical would actually dissolve the tub.\u00c2\u00a0 But it did not!\u00c2\u00a0 It removed all the old glue, and also the tiles.\u00c2\u00a0 But it did not dissolve the tub.<\/p>\n<p>Discovered that behind the tiles was&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 nothing.\u00c2\u00a0 A dark, empty, cold hole full of nothingness.\u00c2\u00a0 The cats, of course, disappeared into it immediately.\u00c2\u00a0 Got a plumber in, to fix the leaky faucet.\u00c2\u00a0 And then&#8230;\u00c2\u00a0 re-tiling.\u00c2\u00a0 Now, it&#8217;s not the tiles that were so bad.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;re just so persistently <em>yellow.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/016.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1484\" title=\"016\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/016-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/016-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/016-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>See?\u00c2\u00a0 But once they&#8217;ve fallen off anyway, why not add nicer tiles?\u00c2\u00a0 Tiling is easy and fun.<\/p>\n<p>First, destroy everything.\u00c2\u00a0 (Day 1)\u00c2\u00a0 Then, spend all your money at Home Depot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/mess1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"It's a pretty big  mess.\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/mess1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/no-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1545\" title=\"Don't make this mistake.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/no-11-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/no-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1546\" title=\"Don't make this old glue for many, many hours.\u00c2\u00a0 Pretending you are a dwarf in the mines of Moria does not help.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Much.\u00c2\u00a0 Cover any giant holes in the wall with decorative paper and try not to think about it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/holes3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone holes.\u00c2\u00a0 Drywall is neat.\u00c2\u00a0 Screw it in with drywall screws.\u00c2\u00a0 Dads are helpful here.\u00c2\u00a0 Cover everything else up with drywall compound so it&#8217;s like a wall again.\u00c2\u00a0 Make sure the cats are not inside the wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/cat1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(Day 15 &#8211; 20) Spread disgusting tile adhesive on the walls and stick tiles on.\u00c2\u00a0 Stick them mostly straight.\u00c2\u00a0 Unless you don&#8217;t want to.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/squares.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Mosaic tile = no cutting.\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/squares-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/new-tiles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"And ROUND ones!\" src=\"..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/new-tiles-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a pancake batter&#8221; and spread it on the tiles.\u00c2\u00a0 Clean it up quick though, because once it&#8217;s dry it&#8217;s a pain to clean up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rebeccagibson.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/tiles-up.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1550\" title=\"Yup.
